Camila Cabello 'uncomfortable' being sexualised while she was in Fifth Harmony

Former Fifth Harmony singer Camila Cabello says she felt "uncomfortable" with people trying to sexualise the girl group.

The 19-year-old left the former X Factor USA act at the end of last year.

Speaking on Lena Dunham's podcast, she said the pressure was difficult to deal with because they were so young.

"Especially with being a girl group, there's been a lot of times where people have tried to sexualise us to just get more attention," she said.

"Unfortunately, sex sells. There's definitely been times where there's stuff that I have not been comfortable with and I've had to put my foot down.

"I feel like it's been tricky because we've had to grow into ourselves while being in front of the world and while making songs that did have a lot of sexual undertones."

Camila Cabello talked to Girls writer and actress, Lena Dunham, before one of her final shows with Fifth Harmony in Brazil in December.

The singer was 15 when she was chosen to be part of the girl group and says it's been difficult growing up in the public eye.

"I feel like it's been tricky because we've had to grow into ourselves while being in front of the world and while making songs that did have a lot of sexual undertones," she says.

"There's nothing wrong with showing sexuality.

"If you have that inside, it's just an expression of who you are. If you want to share that with people, that's amazing.

"I think the thing that I would say to young women is, if you're not ready for it, put your foot down."

On the podcast, Camila also talks about growing up with the band and writing music.

"When I look back on my laptop and all the songs that I've written, I can literally see the evolution.

"When I was 15 and I wrote about my first kiss, when I wrote about my first heartbreak and disappointment in my friendship with somebody.

"I have a soundtrack to listen to when I'm super old of how I felt during all these times in my life."
