Winston Churchill’s Historic London Home Listed for $36 Million @ 1:00 am
On Nov 26, 2016
History buffs, take note: the home that once belonged to beloved British Prime Minister Sir Winston Churchill can be yours for £22,900,000—or around $36.5 million.
Located in London’s prestigious Kensington neighborhood, 28 Hyde Park Gate is split among four floors and includes seven bedrooms, five bathrooms, two cloakrooms, a wine cellar, a drawing room, a terrace, and a formal dining room, as well as a 55-foot long west-facing garden, according to the listing.
All well and good, but interested buyers whose taste tend to veer toward the contemporary might be pleasantly surprised to notice the home’s ultra-chic, modern decor choices and obvious renovations that include glossy wood-paneled flooring, recessed lighting, sleek gray carpeting, and monochromatic stripes offset by blood-red details—surely an unexpected departure from its stoic stone exterior and historical significance.
Churchill and his wife Baroness Spencer-Churchill lived in the sprawling home between stints at 10 Downing Street during the mid-20th Century, and it also happens to be where the prime minister died on January 24 1965.
James Gow, a partner at Strutt & Parker, is representing the property and didn’t immediately reply to requests for comment.
